Rebecca Simons
As a multimedia artist, Rebecca Simons (FIN, 1981) wants to break taboos and open conversations. She finds inspiration in the tension between memories and myths. Rebecca is fascinated by how humans construct reality based on selective memories and chosen truths to adorn or to survive. Through photography, video, sound and text, she reconstructs (family) history examining personal and intergenerational memory and trauma.

Letters From The Past
Letters From The Past
‘Letters from the Past’ is a multimedia project consisting of a photography and video based exhibition and a film. The work explores how to tell the story about sexual abuse within a family without focusing on the abuse itself. Through the exhibition installation and film the viewer is confronted with the complex feelings and dilemmas that the family members face. It takes us on a journey where the protagonist appears both as an ideal man and a perpetrator. The juxtaposed stories allow the viewer to experience and reflect on the clashing emotions and realities that abuse brings forward.
